Get Polished Up.

If you have taken any steps in your day-to-day toward being slower on the toxin uptake, you may have done your homework on nail polish. I know, I know—can’t I just let you live your life and NOT offer these dooming, annoying blurbs that instead of help, may cause stress? Tis not my intention, I promise! Truly- I just wanna throw out a little list of nail paint I’ve been experimenting with (on my SUPER COOPERATIVE guinea pig daughters, as well) that have helped me get a little more sleep at night (on a good moon day, obvi).

So the passing test for non-toxic polish used to be whatever polishes were missing the “dirty three”: Formaldehyde, Toluene and Dibutyl Phthalates. Don’t worry, I won’t quiz you later.

Now as the wonderfully, wide, world of beauty has wised up, the “sh*t list” has grown, and more harmful chemicals are being eliminated. A good “7-free” is what they are calling the most “healthy” of the polishes (that I’ve seen); those missing formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, (the dirty three plus:) formaldehyde resin, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, and xylene.

Phew! Those are as “greek” sounding to me as the language those nice salon ladies are speaking (about me) (right in front of me) at my pedi sesh.

And now, here’s the scoop on the good stuff:

Acquarella– Scored the best at EWG’s database <—(great resource for product safety, if you haven’t visited the site). I liked it. It’s vegan, so like, it’s gotta be good. And proud :)

Chanel, Dior and Bliss Spa (and certain OPI)- All offer “five free” polishes! Ow! Treat yourself right, ladies (and gents?)! Fancy Schmancy.

Piggie Paint– Let’s hear it for the kiddos! There are a few reasons I like this brand for my chi’len. Awesome score on EWG, and (even though) it peels off pretty quickly, you don’t have to reach for the remover when your child changes their mind and wants a new color the next day :) Their claim is “natural as mud”. I love it.

Ella+Mila– Another one for the children. In the (high-five) “five free” category. Again, doesn’t stay on for super long, though these make cute girly gifts with the little elephant packaging.

And the last one I’ll offer for today is Pacifica’s 7-free nail care line. I love all of their make-up I have dabbled in, but haven’t tried this. Let me know if you beat me to it!

If you’re new to this wellness game, any start is a good start, so no pressure. OPI is offered at most salons and by law have removed the dirty three– at least. So see, you’ve been doing better and you didn’t even know it!

We can’t knit-pick everything we do or consume, but if we can at least access an easy list (and a reason to purchase a fun, new nail ‘collah’), my work is done. Off to buff those piggies < ;0)
